Ingredients

You will need 2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at room temperature, 1-1/4 cups sugar, 3 eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup cocoa powder.

Prepare the Batter

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, beat the butter with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add the sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract. Add the flour mixture in three batches, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour. Divide the batter evenly between two bowls.

Make the Marble Mixture

To one bowl of batter, add the cocoa powder and stir until well blended. Set aside.

Combine the Batter

Spoon half of the plain batter into the prepared pans. Top with half of the chocolate batter. Use a knife to swirl the batters together. Top with the remaining plain and chocolate batters. Swirl the batters together again. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Cool and Serve

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Serve the cake with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream. Enjoy!
